40th Annual Scottish Festival and Kirkin' o' the Tartan

Bagpipes, Highland dancers, Scottish food, whisky, tartans, a Highland cow and four decades of tradition come together as First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City celebrates the 40th Anniversary of its Scottish Festival Saturday, October 24th through Sunday, October 25th. For its milestone anniversary, the church has expanded Saturday festival hours from 2:00–6:00p.m. featuring more food, entertainment, shopping and activities for all ages. At 6 p.m., the celebration moves into the historic sanctuary with the sights and sounds of pipes, drums and Highland dancing for a concert featuring the Salt Lake Scots Pipe Band & Drum Corps and its Highland Dancers. This award-winning group has become one of the most memorable traditions of the weekend. Festival admission is free, and everyone is welcome.The 40th anniversary celebration continues Sunday, October 25th with the traditional Kirkin’ o’ th’ Tartan worship services at 9 and 11 a.m. The colorful services celebrate the Scottish roots of Presbyterianism and includes the presentation and blessing of Scottish family tartans. Worshippers, visitors, and families of every background are welcome.More than a celebration of Scottish culture, the festival is also a fundraiser with a purpose. All proceeds will benefit initiatives serving the unhoused throughout the Salt Lake Valley, work long championed by church member and renowned Utah humanitarian, Pamela Atkinson, as well as the First Presbyterian Church Deacons’ Fund, which provides direct assistance to individuals and families facing hardship throughout the community.
