John S. Dixon, Pipe Organ Recital

John S. Dixon will perform on The Wesleyan Heritage Organ at First United Methodist Church of SLC on September 11 at 7:30pm. This event will feature a special remembrance at the beginning of the program to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of 9/11.  All are welcome to join us for this memorable occasion.Born in England in 1957, Mr. Dixon was not active as an organist when he moved to America in 1988. Then he filled the organ bench at his church in Virginia Beach during an emergency in 1998 - and is still there. He has been composing seriously since 1990 and currently has more than one thousand compositions to his credit, for organ, choir and orchestral ensembles. His current project is to share his own music in person in all 50 states between his 60th and 70th birthdays – the 50-60-70 project. Utah becomes state number 48 on the list. He will play in Minnesota later this month, before concluding his project in early October in Denver, Colorado - some six months ahead of the deadline. The organ selections are grouped into "suites," short pieces of inspiration that range "From A Green and Pleasant Land" to a "Patriotic Finale." The 75-minute program will include a World Premiere of "Hope" sung by the local and talented soprano, Lily Graham, formerly a Section Leader with the First UMC Chancel Choir and currently singing with the Sound of Ages Choir, the Cathedral of the Madeleine, and Vox Luscinae (NY.)
