You’ll hear the power and beauty you expect from this beloved composer—but this symphony also has secrets to unlock. Listen for folk-inspired melodies, moments of spareness and restraint, and even a hint of modernism from an otherwise devoted Romanticist. Opening the program is Bernstein’s undeniably infectious Overture to Candide. Then, enjoy Bolcom’s superb Violin Concerto performed by our very own Concertmaster, Madeline Adkins.
