Dance as Medicine:The Neuroscience of Dance for Health and Well-Beingwith Instructor Juan Carlos Claudio Dance is far more than artistic expression or physical exercise. Research continues to show that purposeful movement combined with music can positively influence the brain, body, and emotional well-being. This interactive workshop explores the neuroscience of dance as a therapeutic practice and demonstrates how movement can serve as a practical tool to support mental health, cognitive function, physical performance, and quality of life. Participants will learn how rhythm, music, movement, creativity, and social connection influence the nervous system and contribute to healthier well-being regardless of age. Drawing from current neuroscience research and the Grey Matters Rhythmic Movement, Music and Dance Program, the workshop combines brief presentations with experiential activities that participants can immediately apply in healthcare, community, educational, and wellness settings. Participants should come prepared to move, learn, and experience firsthand how dance can become a powerful resource for promoting health across the lifespan. No registration is needed. All of the events are entirely free thanks to the financial support from the Sorenson Unity Center, Salt Lake County Zoo Arts and Parks, Utah Division of Arts and Museums, National Endowment for the Arts, Salt Lake City Arts Council, and Creative West.
