Initially conceived as a healing salve for violence and war in Ukraine, the series serves as a general call to stand for peace and unity over discord and division, communicating steps we can take to stand for peace in our own situations and showing ways we can build a better and more resilient society in the face of increasing adversity. Its program will look at the meaning of peace through the lens of art culture, featuring selections of music, dance, visual art, theater, short film, and literature from today and the ages. The first night will be focused on film: short film entries from local students and community members, as well as a screening of The Sky Was on Fire: Ballet and War in Ukraine by Adrenaline Films. The second night will be focused on performances of music, dance, theater, and literature readings. Local performers and artists will be featured, along with student dancers from the University of Utah School of Dance and student and alumni musicians from Utah State University, in a stunning performance of the Simurgh-Quintet by the contemporary Ukrainian composer Victoria Polevá and inspired by the ancient Sufi poem “The Conference of the Birds” by Farid ud-Din Attar. If you would like to participate in the event, please see the call for entries for more information.
