Día de los Muertos: A Celebration of Life & Remembrance

Celebrate the vibrant culture and remembrance of a ceremony steeped in Mexican tradition! Día de los Muertos: A Celebration of Life & Remembrance, which translates to “Day of the Dead: A Celebration of Life & Remembrance”, will bring the rich customs of honoring the departed to life through stunning ofrendas (altars), art, live performances, and hands-on experiences. This two-part program will kick off on Tuesday, September 15th with a curated ofrenda in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, followed by a family-friendly, free event on October 24th in celebration of DÍa de los Muertos. Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to engage in cultural traditions and learn about the significance of these heritage rituals. Interactive activities will provide deeper insights into the customs behind DÍa de Los Muertos, ensuring cultural authenticity and a lasting appreciation for this important celebration. Passive Ofrenda Art Installation Display (Sept. 15 – Nov. 2): The art installation created by Visionary Collective features marigolds, sugar skulls, and offerings that highlight themes of remembrance, heritage, and legacy. Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration (Saturday, Oct. 24 from 1 pm to 5 pm): The celebration is open to the public and provides an opportunity for the Sacramento community to come together. FEATURED ARTIST: ESTELLA SANCHEZ Cultural Strategist, Artist, and Community Organizer Estella Sanchez is a cultural strategist, artist, and community organizer based in Sacramento. She is the founder of Sol Collective, where her work bridges art, ancestral knowledge, and healing practices as tools for cultural preservation and liberation. She is also a member of Visionary Collective, a group of interdisciplinary artists committed to cultural preservation and collective healing. FEATURED PARTNER: VISIONARY COLLECTIVE Visionary Collective is a cultural and community-based arts collective of cultural bearers, artists, and healers with decades of experience producing arts and cultural events rooted in ancestral knowledge. We collaborate with a wide network of artists, elders, and educators to create accessible, meaningful activations that uplift traditions and inspire community connection.
