Create a Mood with Color Temperature in Watercolor

In this class, students will learn how to create mood in a painting by varying the color temperature. Working with a limited number of tube watercolors, students will learn how to mix warm and cool colors. In class, they will work from one photo reference to create two small paintings – one warm and one cool. A choice of reference photos will be provided; however, students are welcome to bring their own printed photo. Working from pictures on a phone is not recommended.Sue Martin is a professional artist and instructor who works in her home studio in South Jordan, UT. With nearly 30 years of painting experience and a BFA degree from the University of Utah, Sue is known as a fearless experimenter. Working in watercolor, acrylic, oils, and mixed media, she calls her work “abstracted.” No matter her subject matter (landscape, figure, or still life), she enjoys exaggerating color, shapes, or textures to express her impression of the subject.
