In this free, two-hour nutrition education class offered at the Community Education Center and taught by instructors from the Department of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences, explore how traditional Mexican foods can support health while preserving cultural identity and family traditions. Learn about the nutritional benefits of traditional foods such as corn, beans, vegetables, squash, and chile, while examining how migration, food marketing, convenience foods, and sugary beverages can influence dietary habits over time. Through guided discussions, reflection activities, and a traditional agua fresca demonstration, discover practical ways to maintain cultural food traditions while making small, sustainable changes that support overall well-being. Healthy eating does not require giving up cultural foods. Gain bilingual resources, recipes, and strategies to build healthier habits while honoring heritage.
