Seminar Series | Biological & Chemical Engineering

Decarbonization and electrification require new technologies that can efficiently interconvert electricity, fuels, and chemicals while operating across a wide range of scales and environments. In this seminar, Dr. Chuancheng Duan will discuss recent efforts to develop electrochemical devices based on advanced ionic materials and catalytic interfaces for sustainable energy and chemical conversion. Topics will include solid oxide and protonic ceramic fuel cells and electrolyzers, reversible electrochemical energy conversion, electrochemical production of fuels and chemicals, and emerging applications in low-carbon industrial processes. Particular emphasis will be placed on how materials design, interfacial chemistry, and device engineering can be integrated to improve efficiency, durability, and functionality. These examples illustrate how electrochemical technologies can provide versatile platforms for coupling renewable electricity with chemical manufacturing, energy storage, and decarbonization of difficult-to-electrify sectors.
