- 🗓 Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
- 📍 Pleasant Green Cemetery, 9200 W 3500 S, Magna, UT · Directions
Join Preservation Utah for a tour of Pleasant Green Cemetery, located in the Oquirrh Mountains above Magna, Utah. Established in 1883, Pleasant Green Cemetery is one of Utah’s oldest active pioneer cemeteries.
During this 90-minute tour, attendees will learn about the founding of this non-perpetual-care cemetery and the people who established its 10 acres as a final resting place for early settlers on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
Over time, Pleasant Green Cemetery became the resting place for people representing many of the cultures and communities that shaped Magna. The tour offers an opportunity to explore both the history of the cemetery and the broader story of settlement and community development on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
The tour guide is Shannon Bills Coon. Shannon lived in Magna for 25 years and is a 1975 graduate of Cyprus High School. She earned a B.S. and M.Ed. in history, English, and education from the University of Utah. After retiring from a 36-year teaching career, Shannon continues to pursue her love of history as a longtime Preservation Utah volunteer.
