Democracy Art Day | Action Badges + Get Out & Vote Postcards with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts

Make your voices heard through art! Self-expression is an important right in the US. What do you want to share with the public? Join us to make postcards, buttons, and stickers to share your message. America has a history of putting our ideas on buttons and badges - from campaign buttons to catchphrases, this tradition is over 250 years old! Get inspiration from some historical and vintage badges in the "Voices & Votes" exhibition to create your own statement button declaring something important to you. Voting is an important duty of all American citizens 18 years and over. But you don't need to be of voting age to encourage your friends and family to vote! Join a long tradition of encouraging voters by making your own Get Out and Vote postcard. We will look at historical postcards and then create our own. You will have the chance to write your encouragement on the back and mail to friends, family, or even your elected official. Presented in partnership with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, this event accompanies "Voices & Votes: Democracy in America," a Smithsonian exhibition that explores the action, reaction, vision, and revision that democracy demands as Americans continue to question how to shape our country. "Voices & Votes: Democracy in America" is made possible in Utah by Utah Humanities and local venues around the state. Voices & Votes is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. It is based on an exhibition by the National Museum of American History. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress. Visit the exhibition in Ogden from October 24 to December 30, 2026 and learn how Utah connects to this national story through local companion exhibits and public programming.
