Witchcraft and Fear in Colonial America: Lessons from Salem

This spooky season, we are excited to welcome USU professor Kyle Bulthuis for a lecture titled Witchcraft and Fear in Colonial America: Lessons from Salem! Join us on October 13 at 6:30 PM to explore whether there were really witches in colonial America, who might have been considered a witch, why witchcraft would be a problem, and why witches would need to be prosecuted to help us understand what happened in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692, where the state put to death 17 individuals in connection with witchcraft. Considering these questions might also help us understand how cultural divisions can divide a society, especially in times of duress, which may be useful at all times.
