THE ROCK:

Rogue marines hijack chemical weapons and seize Alcatraz, holding the tourists, guards, and guides hostage. They demand $100 million, most of which will be given to the families of fallen marines who were never properly recognized and compensated by the US federal government. The Department of Defense and FBI send in Navy Seals, a chemical weapons expert, and an imprisoned British operative who escaped from Alcatraz to infiltrate the facility, take down the rogue marines, and rescue the hostages. Unfortunately, the marines have the upper-hand. It is up to the chemical weapons expert and the British operative to stop the rogue marines before they launch the chemical weapons into San Francisco!

Directed by Hollywood maximalist Michael Bay (BAD BOYS and the live-action TRANSFORMERS franchise), this high-energy action thriller is one of the best of its kind. Bay uses his excitable style to portray relentless set-pieces, relatively level-headed patriotism, and refreshing scrutiny toward the institutions of governments and the armed forces.

It stars Nicolas Cage (CON AIR), Sean Connery (DR. NO), Ed Harris (THE ABYSS), Michael Biehn (ALIENS), and William Forsythe (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS).
