Madeline Rupard's 2002 Subaru Forester Presented by Mark Miller Subaru

Join us for the opening reception of Madeline Rupard’s solo exhibition, *2002 Subaru Forester* Presented by Mark Miller Subaru at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

In the summer of 2020, artist Madeline Rupard bought a used car to leave her Queens apartment during the height of New York's pandemic lockdowns. What began as a practical purchase quickly became a vessel for repeated cross-country journeys packed with her worldly possessions, fears, and dreams. Four years and thousands of miles later, *2002 Subaru Forester* presents a series of paintings and stream-of-consciousness texts stemming from one final drive in the beloved vehicle.

Drawing a line from Giotto’s everyday realism to James Joyce's belief that "in the particular is contained the universal," Rupard uses the humble form of the Subaru to confront immense, abstract themes of love, loss, and letting go. At its heart, the exhibition is a meditation on painting itself—a slow, physical act of holding time still in an age marked by immaterial data and perpetual movement.
