Americans Go to the Theater

Americans Go to the Theater

Join us for "America at the Crossroads," a new series that invites us to think about how movies, music, museums, and more help us understand America’s past and shape our decisions about its future. Theatre is entertainment as old as civilization itself. In this panel, Professors Christianson, Jones, and Kerry will talk about three plays and musicals that invite us to consider America from a variety of angles—from British views of America in Shakespeare’s Richard III , from a small Canadian airport in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th attacks in Come From Away , and from the historical perspective of the nation’s founding in the Tony-award winning 1776 . Panelists: Frank Christianson (English), Megan Sanborn Jones (Theatre and Media Arts), and Paul Kerry (History). Sponsored by the American Studies program.
