Cottonwood Heights Amateur Radio "Field Day" June 27- 28 The Cottonwood Heights Amateur Radio Club (CHARC) will participate in the 2026 ARRL Field Day, a nationwide emergency communications exercise taking place June 27–28, 2026. Field Day is the largest annual amateur radio event in North America and has been organized by the ARRL since 1933. The event allows amateur radio operators — commonly known as “ham radio” operators — to demonstrate their ability to provide emergency communications during disasters, power outages, and other emergencies when traditional communication systems may be unavailable. Throughout the 24-hour exercise, CHARC members will operate temporary radio stations using portable antennas, generators, solar power, and battery-powered equipment to communicate with amateur radio operators across the United States and Canada. The event highlights how amateur radio can function independently of internet and cellular networks, making it an important tool for emergency preparedness and community resilience. Residents are invited to stop by the Field Day site on Saturday, June 27, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to observe live radio operations, meet local amateur radio operators, and learn more about emergency communications and public service opportunities within the amateur radio community.
