Bharatanatyam: A Moving Canvas

Bharatanatyam is a South Indian classical genre of dance, universally recognized for the grounded geometry of its precise pure technique and extensive narrative vocabulary. This event opens with a brief history of the genre, tracing its fascinating evolutionary trajectory to show how modern Bharatanatyam has transformed in both content and form. Following this historical context, we will present a repertoire of select pieces designed to invite viewers into the rich storytelling possibilities of the art form. To conclude the evening, we invite the audience to step onto the floor with us for an interactive, hands-on movement workshop geared toward the universal art of storytelling through dance.
