Professor Peter C. Mancall will discuss his new book, "Contested Continent," and present his talk “No Land is Ever Conquered Quietly: Writing a New Narrative History of Early America.” About Contested Continent : “In this deeply researched and elegantly written volume, the author recounts how North America was forged from the experiences of millions of Indigenous women and men as well as Europeans and Africans. Contested Continent underscores the titanic struggles between the peoples who had populated the Americas for centuries and the migrants from the Old World who initiated changes that created a New World in a sweeping history of developments crucial to the eventual founding of the United States. This event is sponsored by The University of Utah's History Department, Tanner Humanities Center, Environmental Humanities, The American West Center, The Department of Ethnic, Gender, and Disabilities Studies, and the Salt Lake City Public Library.
