Movie Night - 'Rafiki'

Moab Pride’s third movie in the Queer Movie Night series is called Rafiki, which is Swahili for ‘friend’. This Kenyan drama is about the romance between two young women despite pressure from family politics and LGBTQ rights in Kenya, where homosexuality is forbidden by law. *Due to the subject matter, this film was banned in its home country of Kenya, and still is today. The film depicts characters facing severe homophobia, including instances of mob violence, assault, and emotional distress. 14+ audience recommendation. Viewers should exercise caution regarding triggering scenes. Spoiler – there is a happy ending to this movie. Doors open at 7pm, movie begins at 7:30pm.
