Parowan Gap - Swallowing the Summer Sun Observation

Parowan Gap: Archeoastronomy Event is held 6:45 am - 8:00 am at the Parowan Gap Historical Site (12 miles north of Cedar City off Hwy 130). Enjoy the FREE Interpretative program before watching the Summer Sun being swallowed by the rock face profile at Parowan Gap. Begin at 6:45 am with the Interpretative presentation, followed by the observation from 7:15 - 7:30 am of the Summer Sun entering the Overseer's mouth. Those attending the Free event should dress warmly as temperatures will be in the mid-20s. Remember to include gloves and bring something warm to drink. Those attending will be able to observe this astronomical change of the season's event just like past Indigenous People did. This event only occurs on November 6th, 7th and 8th each year. It signaled to the tribespeople that the Summer Sun has gone into its winter home. And, if they haven't prepared for winter, they had better move south as the weather will only get colder.
