LOS TEXMANIACS WITH MAKING MOVIES

Los Texmaniacs and Making Movies perform live.

Los Texmaniacs bring the accordion-driven soul of the Texas-Mexico borderlands to Ogden Amphitheater this summer, joined by Kansas City’s Making Movies for a Wednesday night of música that stretches from San Antonio dance halls to Havana streets. Picture a July evening downtown. The sun dips behind the mountains, street food fills the air, and the unmistakable squeeze of a button accordion opens up a song your abuela hummed in the kitchen. That’s the world Los Texmaniacs create—a sound rooted in the conjunto tradition, where polkas meet blues and cumbias slide into rock and roll. Founded by bajo sexto master Max Baca, the band has spent three decades keeping this music alive while pushing it somewhere new. Their 2010 Grammy win for Best Tejano Album announced them to the world, and Baca’s work across 11 Grammy-winning projects speaks to a musician who lives where tradition and innovation meet.
