America 250 Lecture Series: Latinx: A Ten-Year Retrospective

Join us on October 17 at 4 PM in Community Room B for our next lecture celebrating America's 250th birthday! This lecture will feature Dr. Alvaro Ibarra and is titled "Latinx: a Ten-Year Retrospective". Though the term "Latinx" has been in active use for over a decade, it remains a subject of lively debate. In this lecture, Dr. Ibarra examines the widespread rejection of the term, showing how a philosophy intended to foster gender-neutral inclusion has faced backlash rooted in outmoded and disingenuous premises. The talk traces the origins of "Latinx," analyzes its evolving cultural significance, and explores why it remains a vital form of self-identification for those who choose to use it.
