Steve Leavitt, a professor at Brigham Young University and a world-renowned lichen expert, guides a walk in the Sand Flats Recreation Area exploring desert lichen ecology and discussing recent data from the area. Leavitt is a festival favorite for his deep knowledge and his engaging, frequently hilarious delivery. Meet at the Echo Campground. Please carpool if you can, as parking is limited. Free. Part of the Moab Festival of Science, Sept. 23-27.
